Mayan Magic
Mayan Magic in Mexico- My 75th birthday present to Me!
I’ve just returned from a spiritual retreat in the Mexican Yucatan. This retreat was led by Laura LaBrie, an American woman living there for 12 years who has immersed herself in studying and understanding the history and culture.
It is a vast and nuanced culture and the 3 other participants and I, only skimmed the surface.
That said, it was deep and rich and I’m awed by this beautiful history and depth of knowledge.
We dove into Cenotes ( natural caves full of fresh clean water, which abound in that part of the world) where we floated in a meditative state, one of the most relaxing and spiritual experiences you can have.
We climbed the ancient Pyramid of Ek Ba’laam, made pottery according to the ancient Mayan way, released our old energy into the ancient Ceiba tree and turned around and received new energy, met with a local ‘Herbalist’ in his small village and had a private session with him with the intention of healing from negativity in our lives and welcoming positive energy.
There were wonderful meals, conversations, and opportunities to learn about the Mayan calendar ( fascinating) and all kinds of gods, goddesses and spirits, both positive and negative.
We learned about the importance of the 4 directions and the 4 elements in Mayan life as they relate to plantings and harvesting, the cycle of life and the 4 seasons.
I left both full from this new connection to a part of Mexico where I plan to spend more time in the near future and hungry to learn more.
The sunrise and sunset and beautiful vegetation, not to mention birds, fish, monkeys, iguanas brought me home to myself in a way that welcomed the soul and spirit and filled me with immense gratitude for Life.
Where do you find magic in your life? I’d love to hear about it !!
